William Turcotte of Jackson was a member of the United States Air Force in World War II. He served in the 8th Air Force, 91st Bomb Group, 322nd Squadron, from July through October 1943. In October of 1943, he was captured in Germany and kept in Stalag - Luft III, a prisoner-of-war camp. This scrapbook/diary was kept by Turcotte while in the prisoner-of-war camp. It contains memorabilia, clippings from various German newspapers containing war news, drawings of life in the prison with brief descriptions of various activities and day to day life of the prisoners, and some entries describing the invasion of Germany and eventual liberation of the prisoners in 1945. The collection consists of the diary on three cards of microfiche and photographs, memorabilia and newsclippings that were loose in the diary.
